Be it a single Kirby in platformers or four Kirbys in the Smash Brothers titles, I thought I had seen the most Kirbys in one place that I ever would. Well, at Nintendo of Canada’s E3 2011 review last week, I found out that I was clearly wrong! Kirby Mass Attack, is in development, for release for Nintendo DS on September 19th, and it’s got Kirby times 10. As with Rhythm Heaven, I had no idea what I was suppose d to do when I first picked it up, because it was completely in Japanese, but I quickly figured out the touch controls and was absolutely enamoured!

The game significantly reminds me of Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, but with a cuteness factor that blows it out of the water. All of the controls are touch-based, with players pointing the Kirbys in whatever direction they choose, and flicking the stylus to fling them at obstacles or enemies. And the more you can group them together, the more you can use their mass to increase their strength or chances of pulling objects. I’m really looking forward to hearing more about Kirby Mass Attack, especially in English, as its release approaches.
